But that’s a 16+, oh no this movie has people tripping on drugs. That film has far more sexual references and has nudity, far more language including cunt, and is extremely violent at point. Why is drug use so awful to be shown? Just for reference, the South Park movie has a rating of 16+. Really don’t understand why parents are saying 17+ while the site is saying 18+. It’s just they take a drug off screen most of the time and then talk about how they took the drug. There is no scene where they both start shooting up heroine. But most of the time a character just narrates about the drug they took and then they act goofy and we see things from their perspective for a bit. The only thing that’s really of note is the drug use in the film. There’s a few sexual references here and there but nothing ever explicit. There is one sexual thing in the film, but it’s also not crazy obvious what’s happening and it’s between two lizard people. Yes there is lots of course language And drugs use, but since when has drugs use been the one thing that’s an absolute no-no. Also some of the tripping scenes become extremely intense In a sense they were very naive at the beginning just like the rest of the counter culture movement. Sadly it’s simply not the great dream that was once thought possible and you realize that the original notion of it is false and it’s time for a reimagining of it. In the end instead of finding the so called “American dream” they’re looking for it’s themselves that are the greatest example. It shows western cultures gross over indulgence in the form of themselves (drug use) and the epicentre of it all Las Vegas the land of excess and depravity. It’s really about two men twisted on drugs looking for affirmation of what makes America good but in the end they realize the failures of America and the hippy movement which is an extension of themselves. What’s much more adult is the theme and the darkness of its message. It doesn’t really have much other “bad” things beside the heavy drug use. One of my favourite pieces of literature and this is a nearly but not quite as good movie (performances are great but slightly lacks the coherency of the books messages and some key scenes.) Personally I think many of the kids on here do not quite understand the film and or movie only seeing it as it’s surface level flashy drug movie, which we are often exposed to anyway. I’m 15 years old and have read the book twice seen the movie a couple times.
